ARC Patriot Departs Baltimore August 1, 2020
This 199x32m ( 653x105ft) US flagged roro ship was built in 2006 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in Seoul, South Korea for Wallenius Wilhelmsen and bore the name Aida. She can carry up to 6700 cars.
She was reflagged to American registry on March 30, 2016 by her new owner, ARC (American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier) and renamed Patriot. According to this press release from 2016 she replaces the Courage in the Maritime Security Program.
This Seafarer’s International Union article talks about the naming ceremony which was held here in Baltimore in 2016. I had the opportunity to visit the ARC Resolve, a ship similar to the Patriot, when she had her naming ceremony also here in Baltimore. Check out my blog entry with photos by clicking here.
Check out this 2019 drone video of this ship transiting Istanbul Bosphorus.
In my 5 minute video below she can be seen heading outbound from Baltimore, Maryland on the Patapsco River. Four years of service for her new owner have done a number on her paint job but she’s still a beautiful example of a RoRo ship.
