Atlantic Sun Comes to Baltimore December 23, 2019
This 296×37.6m (971.13×123.36ft) Container/Ro-Ro (or ConRo) ship was built in 2017 by Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group in China for Atlantic Container Line (ACL). She can carry up to 2,800 TEUs and 1,300 cars.
The fifth and final of ACL’s G4 class ships to be built she was christened in October of 2018 at the Port of New York and New Jersey according to this Port Breaking Waves article.
This ACL page has details about the G4 class ships as well as the names of the others. I have previously seen Atlantic Sail and Atlantic Star come to Baltimore, Maryland and this blog marks my second sighting of the Atlantic Sun.
My 20 minute video below starts with the sun rising on Tradepoint Atlantic and the ship coming in amidst some fog. Other morning scenes take place as well as the pilot boat Baltimore heading out to greet her. As the ship nears she unusual lines of a conro become apparent – a ship that carries both containers and roll-on and roll-off cargo.
In the scene following the the one in which she passes under the Key bridge the tug Patrick McAllister can be seen moving to come alongside her. IN the same scene the first good look at her stern ramp by which she loads her roro cargo comes into view.
A couple scenes later she can be seen turning towards her berth at Dundalk. In the following scenes the Patrick McAllister can be seen pushing near her stern to help her settle in to dock.
