Cape Akritas Arrives Baltimore September 24, 2019
This 330x48m (1083x158ft) container ship was built in 2016 by now bankrupt Hanjin Subic Shipyard (more info on bankruptcy in this Business World article) in Subic Bay, Philippines according to BalticShipping.com.
This 11,000 TEU ship is owned by Costamare and time chartered to Evergreen. According to this Hellenic Shipping News article as of October 28, 2018 her charter rate was $28,000 a day.
On July 19th she made her maiden call to the Port of New York and New Jersey.
Check out this video of her departing Felixtowe, UK following her maiden call there in May of 2017 – she’s a lot emptier then!
In my video below tugs David Krause and MS Debbie can be seen pushing a loaded coal barge before the Cape Akritas comes onto the scene. She can be seen passing the outbound Cape Manila which is capable of carrying about 1/3rd as many containers. Pilot boat Maryland arrives on scene and 3 pilots can be seen boarding. After passing under the Key bridge the tugboat Lynne Moran can be seen coming alongside to provide docking assistance.
