Clia arrives in Baltimore September 1, 2019
This 229x38m (751.3×124.67ft) bulk freighter was built in 2012 by AVIC Weihai Shipyard in Weihai, China and is owned by Athens, Greece based Transmed Shipping according to BalticShipping.com.
It was a bit of a challenge to look up information on this ship because her name matches the acryonym for Cruise Line International Association and I was getting a lot of hits not only from their site but also from cruise line industry websites.
This ship made the news August 14, 2017 when she ran aground near Xinda port, Taiwan and again 4 days later when she was refloated with no damage found.
In my video below she can be seen to be arriving empty amidst local pleasure boat traffic. The tugboat Timothy McAllister gets a lot of screen time in this video as she comes out past the Key bridge to meet the ship. The Clia’s paint job is showing the effects of a lot of time at sea. Watch the deck for workers to get a sense of how big this ship is!
