Coral Ruby Comes to Baltimore December 27, 2019

This 224x32m (735x105ft) bulk freighter was built in 2008 by Imabari Shipbuilding’s Marugame Yard in Marugame, Japan and is owned by Imabari, Japan based Mizuho Sangyo according to BalticShipping.com.

In the early hours of February 2, 2012 the ferry MM Rabaul Queen capsized and later sank in rough seas with disastrous results (Wikipedia). According to this document the Coral Ruby was one of 15 merchant vessels involved from the 2nd through the 4th of February. This ship primarily searched for survivors and served as a refueling station for helicopters.

Check out this video taken in 2010 of her leaving the Port of Newcastle. A helicopter lands on her in the last scene which I am guessing is there to pick up the pilot.

My video below begins with a bit of B roll showing morning fog before the ship appears. She can be seen arriving empty riding high out of the water in sharp contrast to the video I linked in the previous paragraph. In the final scene where the Key bridge can normally be seen in its entirety is mostly hidden by fog and as the scene continues the fog continues to roll in making the remainder of the bridge and the ship nearly vanish. The ship is sounding its fog horn at 1 minute intervals and can be heard in this video about mid way through and just before the video ends.
