Ever Fortune Comes to Baltimore December 17, 2020

This 334x48m (1096x157ft) Panama flagged container ship was built in 2020 by Samsung Heavy Industries in Goeje, South Korea and owned by Evergreen Line according to this very detailed press release (be sure to scroll down to see photos).

According to this press release she is the fifth and final F-type container ship of this order and can carry up to 12,118 TEU.

She began her inaugural voyage November 14, 2020 from China, passed through the Panama Canal then went to Savannah, New York, Norfolk, and Baltimore. Her arrival on December 17th would then have been her first voyage!

The F-type ship introduces Evergreen’s Smart Ship System which communicates via satellite to transmit navigation data to Evergreen’s data processing center and provides benefits to the crew as well as the company.

Most interestingly as part of the Smart Ship System this ship has a surround view imaging system which provides the ability to view different cameras throughout the ship to eliminate blind spots which is particularly useful in docking maneuvers.

The ship’s design is optimized to reduce wave resistance, decrease fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emossions. She also has a sulfur oxide removal facility, a nitrogen oxide removal facility, ballast water treatment system, and more!

We can expect to see more of this class of ship come to Baltimore as Evergreen Lines is intending to build 20 more F-type ships to serve the Asia – North America markets.

My 14 minute 4K video below is the only video I have found at the time of this blog posting. She can be seen arriving on the Patapsco River as she makes her way to Baltimore, Maryland. Tugs Patrick McAllister and April Moran can be seen greeting the ship. Her fresh paint job shines nicely though already scuffed a bit and her decks are well loaded with a variety of containers of different brands. Pilot boat Baltimore comes alongside and a pilot can be seen boarding through a conveniently located door. Later in the video a pair of floating cranes can be working on pilings for the new BGE overhead powerlines. Tug Janet makes an appearance as the ship makes her final moves towards docking.
