Fortunagracht Arrives in Baltimore July 2, 2019
This 137x19m (449x62ft) general cargo ship was built in 2012 by Jiangsu Changbo Shipyard in Jingjiang, China according to BalticShipping.com. She is owned by spliethoff´s Bevrachtingskantoor (last word translating to “freight office”) based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She is one of spliethoff’s F-Type ships and they have provided a data sheet on her which can be viewed here.
It didn’t take long for her to run into issues when she suffered a hull breach caused by cargo piercing the hull in 2012 in Antwerp. Happier news came a couple years later when Fortunagracht’s arrival in Cleveland, Ohio in 2014 marked the restart of cargo service between the Great Lakes and Europe.
YouTuber Paul Hiett got some video of this ship arriving in Ipswich, UK at the end of 2017. She is riding higher out of the water than my video below so the bulbous bow can be seen as well as a better look at her stern anchor.
In my video below she can be seen passing the outbound Conro ship Grande Congo. Compare how low she is sitting in the water with Paul’s video above. She’s clearly loaded with some kind of cargo. The weather can be seen getting a bit more intense as she heads into Baltimore, Maryland and in the last scene a couple of flashes can be seen in the clouds from a lightening strike miles away in the approaching storm.
Departing roro ship Victoria Highway and conro ship Grande Congo were seen departing this day. You can view my photography (more than just ships!) here and more videos here.
