Key Brewing Company November 9, 2019
Every brewery and distillery has its own personality. Key Brewing (facebook) is no different. Located at the end of a long industrial road that might make some wonder if they’re going to the right place, they reside in a building that may be in its second life.
In front of their store I found Pop’s Pizza Company (facebook) set up with a pizza oven on a trailer. This is a good arrangement because Key Brewing doesn’t serve food of their own, they also seem to periodically have different vendors in the space. I didn’t order a pizza as I wasn’t hungry at the time but it certainly looks good. Pictured above is their sausage pizza.
Inside I found what I love about breweries and distilleries – their products are made on site. That makes trying out their products more interesting to me.
They had live music playing at the time I was there which is great, unfortunately they were so loud I couldn’t tell what they were playing, or even what genre. So loud that communicating with the staff for my order was very challenging.
I ordered a flight of beer which included a sample of 6 for $10.95. Shown from left to right they are Lord Baltimore, Dundalk Calling, PMA Pilsner, Bail Money, Traditional, and Speed Wobbles. I preferred the PMA Pilsner the best followed by Lord Baltimore, Speed Wobbles, Traditional, Bail Money, then Dundalk Calling. I am hardly a connoisseur so I would suggest checking with Beer Advocate to see which you might prefer.
Check their website for their days and hours but they’re currently open later in the day Thursday through Sunday. I don’t know how often they have food vendors to check ahead if you’re expecting chow. Definitely give this place a visit if you’re into smaller breweries or just like to support Baltimore businesses! I know I will return someday to try another flight with some of the other beers they make.
