NE Brasil in Baltimore November 11, 2019
This 129.2×13.5m (423ft 11in x18ft 1in) training ship was built by Arsenal de Marinha do Rio de Janeiro in 1981 for the Brazilian navy.
It is based on a Niterói-class frigate design. Up to 200 trainees can be trained by her compliment of 215.
She came to Baltimore, Maryland for a visit between November 9 and 14, 2019. Sail Baltimore helped to arrange this visit.
I went to her Broadway Pier location in Fells Point on the 11th for a tour. Unfortunately only outside areas of the ship were available to be toured but it was still interesting to get a closer look at this ship.
Few of her friendly crew could speak English so I wasn’t able to get many questions answered.
I understand she visits Baltimore regularly so I look forward to her return visits!
I lucked out with some other ship related things on this day as well as the USNS Red Cloud arrived assisted by tugboats April Moran and Lynne Moran.
I caught a glimpse of the Pride of Baltimore II as well!
Lady Maryland and Sigsbee were both docked near the Frederick-Douglas Isaac Meyers Maritime Park.
Living Classrooms‘ 1948 built Chesapeake Bay buy boat Mildred Belle was in drydock getting some work done, as well!
