Northern Debonair Comes to Baltimore October 27, 2019
This 231x32m (758x105ft) container ship was built in 2007 by Shanghai Shipyard & Chengxi Shipyard Co. in Shanghai, China and can carry up to 3,534 TEUs and has 500 reefer plugs according to scheepvaartwest.
For her first four years she was named CSAV Rahue, owned or time leased by CSAV. On July 28th, 2010 this ship participated in the rescue of 6 fishermen from the stricken fishing boat Tanya Rose (Coast Guard News). Some photos of the rescue from flickr user amver can be seen here. According to this legal case document a fire precipitated the events that led to the fishing boat’s sinking.
Less than a year later this ship would be chartered to Japan based NYK Line and renamed NYK Lyttleton after the New Zealand port by the name of Lyttleton according to this nzherald article. She can be seen wearing this name in this 2013 video of her arriving in Auckland, New Zealand.
She is currently owned by Republic of Liberia based Northern Debonair Shipping Corp. She is managed by NRS which is now a part of V.Group. This 2017 Tweet by Besikitas Shipyard shows her under maintenance among other ships.
I found this 2016 video of her arriving in Ikonio and this 2017 video of her arriving in Piraeus Port, Greece. She seems to have had an uneventful career while wearing this name.
Early in my video below she can be seen approached by a pilot boat, I believe the Baltimore. As she approaches it can be seen that she is riding high out of the water and not carrying very many containers. As she approaches the Key bridge the Lynne Moran, sporting a pink M for breast cancer awareness month, intercepts to help guide the ship to dock. In the following scene crews can be seen tying the tug to the ship. Next she can be seen passing the Maersk Stadelhorn being worked by the port’s white post-Panamax cranes.
