Ocean Grand Departs Baltimore August 1, 2020
This 170x25m (558x82ft) US flagged general cargo ship was built in 2015 by Hudon-Zonghua Shipbuilding in Shanghai, China according to BalticShipping.com. Who exactly owns this ship was a bit of a challenge to unravel. It is most certainly not the defunct Hamburg, Germany Rickmers Reederei indicated by BalticShipping.com. Vessel Tracking shows the owner as Intermarine LLC and also indicates container capacity as 972 TEU. While some photos show Intermarine painted on the side of the hull she did not have it when she left Baltimore on August 1st. She also does not show up in Intermarine’s fleet list.
This June 2018 Heavy Lift News article about this ship mentions Intermarine as the owner. This strangely undated item from American Maritime Officers indicates this ship had been reflagged into the US registry by Intermarine which replaced the Ocean Charger in the Maritime Security Program Fleet. The same item mentions that Crowley Technical Management is managing the ship and this Crowley press release supports that.
This February 2019 chart on the Maritime Administration website indicates the operator of this ship as Patriot Shipping. This ship’s name doesn’t appear anywhere on their site. However, this ship DOES appear on USOcean‘s site as one of their G-Class 900 ships. The symbol painted on the ship’s funnel matches this company’s logo.
Check out this video from 2015 from the bridge of the ship has she travels to Houston, Texas in 2015.
In my 3 minute video below she can be seen heading outbound on the Patapsco River from Baltimore, Maryland past ships docked at Seagirt and Dundalk. Her paint job looks pretty fresh as she makes her way towards the Chesapeake Bay.
