Onego Traveller Comes to Baltimore August 15, 2020
This 132x15m (433x49ft) Liberian flagged general cargo ship was built in 2002 by Volharding Shipyards in The Netherlands for The Netherlands based Onego. They have this interesting data sheet on her.
The Onego Traveller left Onego’s fleet for a number of years, first being known as Jana then Baby Leeyn. BalticShipping.com lists Intersee as her owner but hasn’t updated to reflect that Onego has taken her back.
Life was apparently rough for this ship when she sailed from Onego’s port as this 2018 CBC article shows. Apparently she’d run into engine trouble then collided with the Marine Atlantic dock causing significant damage while bearing the name Baby Leeyn. In 2014 while bearing the Jana name she’d also suffered engine trouble here. The article indicates the company was Turkish but does not name them and I have not been able to discover what this company’s name is.
This April 16, 2018 Facebook posting announced that she’d rejoined the Onego fleet and shows photos of her freshly painted.
This video posted 2012 shows her launching.
In my 4 minute video below the first scene is of a floating drydock in drydock at Tradepoint Atlantic undergoing repairs. A sharp eye will see the light from a welder’s torch. The ship can then be seen approaching on the Patapsco River as she makes her way towards Baltimore, Maryland. Sitting low in the water she is clearly loaded. In the last scenes she makes her way past the ACL ConRo ship Atlantic Sail being worked by cranes at Seagirt Marine Terminal. Let’s hope this little ship doesn’t leave Onego’s care again until it is time for her retirement!
