Ortolan Gamma Comes to Baltimore August 26, 2020
This 223x32m (732x105ft) Liberian flagged container ship was built in 2007 by Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co. according to this data sheet on NSC Group‘s website which has her in their fleet list. Based on the data sheet she can carry 3,398 TEUs.
According to this Shipfax blog posting she was substituting for ACL’s Atlantic Star which may have been in drydock. This Halifax Shipping News item also adds an interesting note that sister ship to Atlantic Star, Atlantic Sky has been reflagged from UK to Malta.
Other than my own video below I found no video and no other news items than that shown above.
In my 7 minute 38 second video below she can be seen approaching on the Patapsco River while a local sailing club holds races. The outbound bulker Royal Knight can be seen passing. Not surprisingly based on the above information she is carrying a large number of ACL containers. Her water line suggests mostly empty containers. After passing under the Key bridge the tugboat Patrick McAllister appears ready to lend docking assistance. Tug Timothy McAllister follows.
