USNS City of Bismarck Comes to Baltimore October 3, 2018

This Spearhead class fast expeditionary transport (T-EPF-9) ship is named for North Dakota’s capital city and is the 9th of 12 planned ships of this class. The USNS prefix, rather than the USS of Navy commissioned ships, indicates that it is operated by the Military Sealift Command and are normally crewed by civilians. This 103m × 29m (MarineTraffic) (338x95ft) catamaran hull ship was built by Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama and accepted by the Navy December 19 2017. These ships have a stern ramp which is capable of handling an Ambrams Main Battle tank and a flight deck which can support a CH-53 helicopter. According to USNI News:

EPFs are shallow-draft catamarans for personnel and cargo transport, designed for rapid and agile maneuverability for use at austere or degraded offload points.

She came to Baltimore, Maryland for Fleet Week and you can watch her arrival video below!

Be sure to watch for the Hoegh Berlin vehicles carrier departing, the Antares, another USNS ship, following. There will be a police boat passing the ship in a hurry as she passes near her closest point to the camera. Her stern ramp will be visible as she passes.
