Atlanticborg Comes to Baltimore February 15, 2021
This 143x21m (469x69ft) Netherlands flagged general cargo ship was built in 2012 by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group in Shanghai, China and owned by Netherlands based Royal Wagenborg who also provided this interesting data sheet on this ship.
This Ship & Offshore article announced the launch of this ship.
Among her earliest voyages is this one that made the Duluth Shipping News in this 2012 article about her arriving with wind turbine blades from Denmark intended for a wind farm in North Dakota which includes a lot of great photos. She shortly thereafter loaded wind turbine blades made in North Dakota to be delivered to Brazil.
This Grand Forks Herald article has more detail about the blades and their use but neither article goes into the obvious question of why North Dakota wind farms didn’t use North Dakota made blades.
Some more photos of this voyage can be seen in Calrz Boats blog posting.
This video from 2012 shows her in Phy My, Vietnam loading was appears to be wind turbine parts. Also from 2012 is this video of her arriving in Duluth, Minnesota to pick up the wind blades mentioned above. The beginning of that video shows the lifting bridge raising in advance of her passage.
A more recent video of her arriving in Duluth, Minnesota is from 2016. This quick timelapse from 2018 shows her sailing the Bellot Strait during her North West Passage.
In my 5 minute 4K video below she can be seen arriving on the Patapsco River as she comes to Baltimore, Maryland. A pilot can be seen boarding from pilot boat Maryland later in the video.
