BBC Orion Comes to Baltimore May 27, 2020

This 119x20m (390x66ft) general cargo ship was built in 2007 by now defunct ENVC Viana Do Castelo in Portugal according to BalticShipping.com. She is owned by BBC Chartering which has this interesting PDF data sheet on her. According to BalticShipping.com she was first named Orion J in 2007, then became Industrial Dawn in 2015.

However, this Ajot article from March 2007 shows her being delivered to Intermarine as the Industrial Dawn so that is clearly incorrect. The website of the owner according to BalticShipping.com, Jungerhans Reederei of Germany shows an Orion J on their roster but it is not clear during which period she had this name. Perhaps BalticShipping has the dates reversed and she became the Orion J in 2015 and possibly in 2018 got her current name.

This 2014 video shows her as the Industrial Dawn with the Intermarine name on the side at the Port of Yokohama, Japan. This 2015 video of her arriving to the Port de Sete in France with the name BBC Orion contradicts my theory above of BalticShipping.com having reversed the times and names so the Orion J may be a different ship altogether. Also check out this 2017 video of her at St. Johns, The Netherlands.

The BBC Orion had a bad day on February 5th, 2017 when she ran into an embankment on the Kiel Canal in Germany according to this SeaNews article.

In my 5 minute video below she can be seen on the Patapsco River approaching Baltimore, Maryland. Based on her position in the water she’s loaded with something. Her hull paint is showing the signs of wear but the cranes look freshly painted. The container ship CPO Hamburg can be seen at dock in the second to last scene. I believe the pilot boat following in the last scene is the Vedette.
