CPO Hamburg Comes to Baltimore May 27, 2020

This 334x42m (1096x138ft) container ship was built in 2009 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea and is owned by Offen Reederei of Hamburg, Germany according to BalticShipping.com. Prior to 2017 she was Hapag-Lloyd‘s Seattle Express. According to MarineTraffic.com she can carry up to 8600 TEUs.

3473-1 Container ship CPO Hamburg

Unusually I’ve found no news items on this ship other than this interesting undated item from ShipArrested.com regarding unpaid compensation for the death of the next of kin of a seafarer. It is typical to find a press release when a ship has transferred ownership but none was found for this ship.

Also unusual is this 9 minute video of the ship taken from someone in an “Alpacka Raft” in March of 2015. No location is given.

The only other video of this ship is my own 15 minute video below. She can be seen approaching from the Chesapeake Bay then onto the Patapsco River and is approached by the pilot boat Vedette. As she nears she can be seen carrying containers bearing the names of MSC, Maersk, Hamburg Sud, and others. As she passes under the Key bridge she’s picked up tugboats April Moran and Lynne Moran which will assist her to dock. In the last scenes barge GM 6507 is seen being pushed by tug Genesis Valiant and another barge bearing pipes being pushed by tug Rising Sun.
