Daiwan Kalon Comes to Baltimore February 9, 2020
This 179x30m (587x95ft) bulk carrier was built in 2016 by Namura Shipbuilding Co. in Imari, Japan and is owned by Taipei, Taiwan based Wisdom Marine Lines according to BalticShipping.com.
She did not always have the black and red paint scheme she has today, click here to check out her solid red paint scheme. The Port of Coos Bay celebrated the completion of her maiden voyage there in this April 2, 2016 Facebook posting.
The Washington Post made a mention of this ship in their article about Baltimore’s Domino Sugars plant.
In my video below she can be seen on the Patapsco River having just turned from the Chesapeake Bay. As she nears it can be seen she has vertical structures which are used to support logs. Her unusual red and black paint scheme really stands out! Although not completely loaded she was bringing sugar to Domino Sugars as mentioned in the article above. In the second to the last scene of the video a container ship can be seen worked by the container cranes while the roro ship Tombarra approaches from the opposite direction of the Daiwan Kalon.
