Tombarra Comes to Baltimore February 9, 2020

This 199x32m ( 653x105ft) roro ship was built in 2006 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Kobe, Japan and is owned by Wilhelmsen Lines Car Carriers according to scheepvaartwest. She can carry up to 6,350 cars.

Tragedy befell this ship February 2011 when a seafarer was killed and 7 injured when a wire snapped while winching the lifeboat aboard after a drill according to this BBC article. This SeaNews article has more information (and a lot more ads). In October of that same year another tragedy occurred during repair to the ship’s ramp when it collapsed onto workers killing 5 and injuring 8 others according to this GMA News Online article.

Check out this video by binmei.jp of this ship sailing the Kanmon Strait in Japan about a year ago. Also check out this drone footage of the ship departing Southampton in April of 2017.

In my video below she can be seen arriving from the Chesapeake Bay before turning onto the Patapsco River, following the historic Liberty Ship John W Brown and followed by a bulker. Tug Bridget McAllister moves into position to assist this big roro to dock. Tugboat Lynne Moran can be seen also assisting this ship. Cranes can be seen busy working container ships, one of which is the Maersk Utah (under the white cranes) as the bulker Daiwam Kalon passes.
