Georg Maersk Comes to Baltimore December 24, 2018
Matching the size of the Gunde Maersk, the largest container ship to come to Baltimore at the time, she measures 366.89×42.8m (1203.7×140.4ft). She was built in 2006 by Odense Steel Shipyard which closed in 2012. Gunde Maersk and another Baltimore, Maryland visitor Gunhilde Maersk were built at the same shipyard in 2008. She is owned by A.P. Moller Maersk.
Because she was the only ship I saw this day she got the full B roll treatment. Her morning arrival created one of the two most beautiful arrivals I have seen so far, the other being the Wallenius Wilhelmsen vehicles carrier Don Carlos. There’s a lot of tugboat activity in this video including a barge with a big crane being pushed out onto the Chesapeake Bay. Watch for the tugs helping the Georg Maersk into her parking space and in the final scene you can see the cranes lowered over the ship and doing work. For best results watch in FULL SCREEN. You may need to watch for 20+ seconds before full resolution kicks in.
