Hoegh Target Comes to Baltimore October 27, 2019
This 199x36m (653x118ft) roro ship was built in 2016 by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industries according to balticshipping.com and is owned by Hoegh. According to this data sheet on this ship provided by Hoegh she can carry up to 8,500 cars. The first of six New Horizon class ships (check out this brochure which includes a cutaway view of the interior of this ship class, also check out this video) she was named in a ceremony on June 4, 2015 according to this press release and then delivered on July 2, 2015 according to this press release.
On September 8, 2016 she transited the newly expanded Panama Canal according to this press release. Check out this video made by the Panama Canal. She made the news wherever she went on her maiden cruise such as Newcastle, UK (Automotive Logistics), Freeport, Texas (World Maritime News), and Jacksonville, Florida (JAXPORT).
This great 2015 video of her coming to dock at Port of Kanda, Japan shows her fresh paint job and has lots of great close ups of the action was taken by binmei.jp who also took this 2017 video of her passing through Japan’s Kanmon Straight which shows her paint starting to show some of the wear seen in my video below. This June 2019 video shows her arriving on UK’s River Tyne and was taken by ALANSVIDS1.
In my video below it can be seen that this ship is showing the signs of years at sea. After she passes under the Key bridge tugboat Patrick McAllister can be seen intercepting her. Be sure to watch for the basketball hoop! Tugboat Bridget McAllister can briefly be seen in the ship’s shadow as she passes. In the next scene the Maersk Stadelhorn is being unloaded by Port of Baltimore’s post-Panamax cranes as she passes. In the final scenes she has turned towards her dock at Dundalk Marine Terminal and a good view of her big stern ramp provided.
