MSC Maria Elena Departs Baltimore September 9, 2019

This 336x45m (1102x148ft) container ship was built in 2006 by Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries in Geoje, South Korea according to scheepvaartwest and owned by MSC.

2015 was a big year for this ship when she set the record for the most container moves in the Port of Baltimore in March with 4,395 moves being made according to this Patch Baltimore article. This record was broken September 2019 by the Thalassa Elpida when 5,181 container moves were made here in Baltimore, Maryland.

Then a few months later in October 2015 she became the largest container ship to arrive in Port Everglades according to this GlobalTrade article.

The video below was taken by me aboard my friend Mike’s boat (owner of the facebook group Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay Ship Watchers). The big container ship can be seen assisted off the dock by tugboats Lynne Moran and April Moran before being visited by pilot boats Baltimore and Maryland. Tugboat Timothy McAllister passes by heading to assist with the move of the Nuclear Ship Savannah later that evening.
