Thamesborg Comes to Baltimore March 7, 2021

This 172x21m (564x69ft) Netherlands flagged general cargo ship was built in 2012 by Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding in Shanghai, China for Royal Wagenborg. The company has provided this interesting data sheet on the ship.

This Setcorp.ru page shows a photo of the ship during her launch.

7069-1 General Cargo Ship Thamesborg

According to this RCI Net article she made a passage through the Northwest Passage carrying wood pulp from Matane, Quebec to South Korea in 2019. This Facebook posting by Royal Wagenborg shows the Thameborg as part of an ice convoy.

7097-1 General Cargo Ship Thamesborg

Showing that travelling in an ice convoy has its own risks this Maritime Disciplinary Court of The Netherlands annual report for 2019 discusses an incident (see page 10) in the Baltic Sea in which a vessel ahead got stuck in the ice but the Thamesborg couldn’t stop in time to prevent a collision. Fortunately there were no injuries and only minor damage to the vessels.

7101-1 General Cargo Ship Thamesborg

This Chesapeake Bay Magazine article on a Maryland Pilot boat operator Christine Cleary was found while searching for Thamesborg news. The article mentions the ship but the subject is Cleary and is very interesting and worth a read.

7109-1 General Cargo Ship Thamesborg

From 2014 is this video of her carrying wind turbine blades in an unknown location. This 2016 video shows her on the Elbe river apparently carrying wind turbine parts. Also from 2016 is this video of her transiting the Panama Canal as seen from the bridge.

7124-1 General Cargo Ship Thamesborg

Various emergency drills are shown in this very interesting video from 2016, however because the entire video is sped up and the camera swings a lot it is nausea inducing. This very interesting travelogue style video made by the same person who did the last two videos shows a voyage in the summer of 2016.

In my 7 minute 4K video below she can be seen arriving on the Patapsco River as she heads to Baltimore, Maryland. Pilot boat is Maryland, trailing container ship is Maersk Gateshead. Outbound Coast Guard cutter is #560, William Tate.
