If you’re riding the M/V Veteran during Osprey season there’s another reason to have binoculars – there is a large number of these magnificent raptors to be seen on channel marker posts here.

An excursion aboard the M/V Veteran whether for a special occasion or just to take a cruise out onto the Rappahannock River will be a memorable experience! There are other charter boats out there but I haven’t seen a similar boat with the history or comforts that this one brings to the table. Captain Sheffield and his team can help customize your charter experience so give him a call ((442) Bay – 4 – You) or send him an email (cbbveteran@gmail.com) today! Be sure to also check their special offers and the ship’s store! Also check out more of the faces you might see onboard!

Although she currently is certified for 6 passengers Captain Sheffield is in the process of getting the boat certified for 15 passengers which is expected in 2020 or 2021.

Other things to do in this area to fill out your maritime themed day is to visit the Steamboat Era Museum in the M/V Veteran’s birthplace of Irvington, Virginia and the Deltaville Maritime Museum in Deltaville, Virginia.

Before returning to dock Captain Sheffield took us for a spin around downtown Urbanna to see the sights which included a big house with its own lighthouse!

After the boat ride I was introduced to a hidden gem in town, the Portside Grill (Facebook). This restaurant is in an unassuming warehouse looking building which provides clues to what resides inside only at its entryway. Captain Michael had the Bailey Point Chicken Sandwich, Mate Jacob had the Crab Muffin, and I had the Crab Tots. Everything was pronounced delicious!

You may notice a familiar face among those in the group photo above. The industrious young Jacob Sheffield is not only a mate aboard the M/V Veteran, but also works at the Portside Grill. He is also a music major at Christopher Newport University and is available to play the trumpet at your events!
