YP 689 Departs Baltimore December 23, 2020
This 108x24ft (33x7m) Yard Patrol boat was built in 1987 by Marinette Marine (now Fincantieri Marinette Marine) in Marinette, Wisconsin and used by the US Naval Academy for training. She is a YP 696 class boat according to this Wikipedia page.
According to the same page the history of these boats comes from the early days of World War II when tuna boats from California were leased by the US Navy to patrol the coasts of the United States and Panama Canal. Some also served in some South Pacific battles. After the war they were returned to their owners.
This video from 2018 shows how the YP boats are used to train midshipmen. The boats shown in the video are newer and larger YP 703 class boats. My 35 second 4K video below shows her departing Baltimore on the Patapsco River.
