Hoegh Asia Comes to Baltimore April 21, 2019
This 228x32m (748x105ft) ro-ro vehicles carrier was built in 2000 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in Seoul, South Korea. Owned by Hoegh Autoliners she can carry 7,850 cars. She had a bad day May 4, 2012 when she ran aground while entering Port of Livorno. She was having a better day on June 29, 2015 when she made the inaugural port call to Freeport, Texas’ new Horizon Terminal vehicles facility.
In the video below she can be seen being approached by the pilot boat Maryland but we can’t see the pilot boarding because the lee side was on the other side of the ship. As she passes look at the top for the basketball court! It can also be seen that she is due for a repainting. After passing under Maryland’s Key bridge the tugboat Lynne Moran can be seen alongside her. In the final scenes the tugboat Bridget McAllister can also be seen helping the Hoegh Asia to dock. For best results watch in FULL SCREEN. You may need to watch for 20+ seconds before full resolution kicks in.
She is the third Hoegh Autoliner ship I have observed around Baltimore. The first would be the Hoegh Manila and the second the Hoegh Berlin.
